Legal Document Verification and Paralegal Support for Overseas Clients and Law Firms

The problem

Someone has sent you a legal document from India. It may be a court order, a sale deed, a company record or a legal heir certificate. You need to know if it is genuine before you rely on it.

Example: A US employer receives a copy of a Bengaluru court order from a job applicant. An overseas bank is asked to accept an Indian property deed as security. Both want an independent check.

What can be checked, and how

Many Indian records are official and can be checked against the source. An advocate in India can compare the copy with the official record, and obtain a certified copy where the law allows.

  • Court orders and case status. District court cases can be checked on eCourts. High Court of Karnataka cases can be checked on its website. Certified copies can be applied for from the court.
  • Registered property documents. Sale deeds and other registered documents can be checked with the Sub-Registrar office. Certified copies and an encumbrance certificate can be obtained.
  • Land records. RTC (Pahani) and mutation details in Karnataka come from the state land records system.
  • Company records. Company and LLP details, directors and filings are on the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) portal.
  • Advocate enrolment. Whether a person is an enrolled advocate can be checked with the State Bar Council.

What you get

  1. You send us a scanned copy and tell us why you need the check.
  2. We search the official record and, where possible, apply for a certified copy.
  3. We give you a short written report: what we checked, where, on what date, and whether the copy matches the official record.

Paralegal support for law firms abroad

Law firms outside India also ask us for support work: document review, summaries and chronologies, due diligence checklists, research on Indian law, and service of papers in India. This work is done to the instructing lawyer’s directions and timelines, under a non-disclosure agreement if needed. See our document verification and paralegal support section.

Limits to keep in mind

  • We can confirm whether a document matches the official record. We cannot confirm facts that are not in any record.
  • Some records, such as family court files, are not open to the public. Access depends on who is asking and why.
  • We follow data protection law and do not obtain records without a lawful basis.
